If I pay for UM insurance, do they just give me the total amount?

A lot of people think that just because they pay for their own UM insurance that they get the policy limits that they pay for if they’re injured in an accident and the at-fault party doesn’t have any insurance. But the truth is, you don’t get that amount. You have to prove the case from the very beginning, just as if the at-fault party’s insurance company was paying for it. You have to prove the other person was at fault, you have to prove they don’t have insurance, then you have to prove what your damages are in that car accident. That’s how you get your UM insurance.
