What is considered overtime?

The Fair Labor Standards Act sets out exactly what is considered overtime and that’s anything worked over 40 hours in one work week. It doesn’t mean more than 80 hours per pay period. It doesn’t mean anything for how many hours you work in a year. Each individual work week is taken separately. And if you work more than 40 hours in that work week, that is considered overtime under the FLSA.
